Those who think of God as anti-sex are terribly mistaken. Saying God opposes sex is like saying He opposes marriage or the church. It is nonsense! The truth is that sex has been polluted by the world. In fact, it is really sacred, because it is comes from God. Sex is holy because God designed, created and gave the gift of sex to husbands and wives to be enjoyed. Yes, God was the One who made sex fun.

Tim Gardner, in his book Sacred Sex, is right when he says, “Our sex-saturated culture worships bodies, focuses on individual pleasure, and glorifies sex outside of marriage.” The subject of sex is corrupted daily on the airwaves and on TV. The problem is that most people are being educated about sex either by Hollywood or pornographers. And despite all this “knowledge,” people are more sexually empty, more sexually lost, and more sexually addicted than ever. We need to ask why.

Our sex-saturated culture worships bodies, focuses on individual pleasure, and glorifies sex outside of marriage.

For now, it is important to highlight that we are in the midst of a war. The war is more than a cultural battle as values deeply cherished for millennia are being thrown away. There is a spiritual battle, and an enemy who wants to steal from us God’s best for our lives.

It is a battle that goes back to the beginning with Adam and Eve. We see how they asserted themselves against God’s authority and rebelled with grave consequences. They were expelled from the Garden and experienced pain, hardship, and death. C.S. Lewis offers great insight in Mere Christianity, saying, “God cannot give us a happiness and peace apart from Himself, because it is not there. There is no such thing.”

Sex is holy, because God created it so. The sacredness of sex is not built on how we use it or misuse it. Sex, according to God’s plan, is a great and enjoyable gift. It brings husbands and wives closer to God and to each other. When it is polluted and desecrated, it brings much grief. If we fail to understand His plan, it can negatively impact us for a lifetime.
