We are living in a battlefield today. We are in a collision of kingdoms, and it will take more than a little effort to bring our sexuality under the rule of Jesus Christ. Lysa Terkeurst said, “Remember who you are. Don’t compromise for anyone, for any reason. You are a child of the Almighty God. Live that truth.”
We are in an age of unprecedented sexual brokenness and devastation. Really, has there ever been an age like this? The dedication and consecration of our sexuality is crucial. I work with many teens and adults as a Christian counselor. I have seen the ravages of sin, this fallen world, and the evil one.
The names have been changed in these real-life stories. George served his country for many years and rose to a very high rank. He lost the career he loved, because he was caught viewing pornography at work. Susan was only 9 when she was molested by her older male cousin. Her life became obsessed with sex, and she bonded with many men who continued to use her. Ben was introduced to some of the most violent pornography imaginable at the age of 9. His use went undetected until the age of 18. The evil one convinced him that he could never overcome the shame. He took his own life and left his family and community in grief.
The heavenly Father loves His children and wants to protect them. He speaks to us saying:
“It is God’s will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; that each of you should learn to control your own body in a way that is holy and honorable, not in passionate lust like the pagans, who do not know God; and that in this matter no one should wrong or take advantage of a brother or sister. The Lord will punish all those who commit such sins, as we told you and warned you before. For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life. Therefore, anyone who rejects this instruction does not reject a human being but God, the very God who gives you his Holy Spirit” (1 Thessalonians 4:3-8).
The blessings of God cannot flow into our lives until we yield our sexuality to His rule and His kingdom. I see so many who are in crisis because they overlook this truth. God’s protection and provision is dependent upon our dedicating our sexuality to God’s grace. If you have not done so, are you ready to consecrate your sexuality to the Lord?
Jesus, I confess that I cannot make it on my own in this sexually broken world. You are my creator and the creator of my sexuality. You have paid the ultimate gift of your life on the Cross, and you are the Savior of my sexuality. What a precious gift, and my sexuality belongs to You. I present myself to you so that I might be made whole and holy. I do this right now. I present my body to you “…as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to You, which is my spiritual act of worship” (Romans 12:1). Lord, make me an instrument of your righteousness. I dedicate my life and my sexuality to honor and serve You. Amen.
